Ap\u00f3s ter as regras publicadas pela Federa\u00e7\u00e3o Alem\u00e3 de Gin\u00e1stica, o esporte come\u00e7ou a ser praticado de forma competitiva em pa\u00edses como, por exemplo,  \u00c1ustria, Su\u00ed\u00e7a e Alemanha.<br \/>\nAs partidas de handebol s\u00e3o realizadas em campos gramados parecidos com de futebol. Assim como no futebol de campo, cada equipe de handebol \u00e9 composta por onze jogadores cada um em uma posi\u00e7\u00e3o.
